Facebook CEO, Zuckerberg visits China to enhance facebook market?

After Apple CEO Tim Cook spotted in China days ago, yesterday, Facebook CEO, Zuckerberg flied to Shanghai with his girlfriend. Unlike vacation of 2010, Zuckerberg did not met with the heads of several Chinese Internet companies, including Baidu Inc, Sina Corp and Alibaba Corp. However, Zuckerberg and his girlfriend paid a visit to an Apple store and some scenic spots in Shanghai yesterday.

To Zuckerberg, China is potential market for facebook. In a report, Facebook said that its monthly active users around the globe reached 845 million, but it has not entered the Chinese market. Compare to Apple, Tim Cook visits China for further business cooperation and wants to tap China deeply with iPhone accessories. As per latest rumors Apple has found a new bedfellow in Chinese search engine Baidu, putting an end to Google’s China dreams. In a way Apple had it easy because of the hardware it sells. However, facebook isn’t finding it very easy to enter Chinese markets. Right now the so-called Great Firewall of China prevents users from accessing their Facebook wall. If Zuckerberg plans to open China market, he has lot of works to do. It would be fair to assume that there is probably some kind of Facebook-related reason for his visit this time. One way of overcoming these would be a partnership with a domestic ally, although there would still be the huge hurdle of government censorship to overcome. What will be Zuckerberg's intent of this visit? Let's wait and see what happens.
